Exit 7 Boulders

View of Exit 7 (103 highway) from the top of the Exit 7 boulders. Notice the parking lot in the center of the photo.

When you head for the top of the hill the first boulder you will encounter is the Feature Fantastic Boulder.

Down the hill, towards the highway, is a line of large boulders I call "The Row" because they are lined up like a row of townhouses. The scale shown is an approximation based on the length of my pack. There are a couple smaller boulders around these which may also contribute a problem or two.

The area between boulder 2 and 3, which I call "The Alley."

Problems at The Row

1. V1 Fire Escape:

Start on obvious hold and move up right along ledge to top-out.

2. V3 - V5 Project:

Start on small sketchy ledge on boulder #3 in the Alley and make big throw left to good hold. Top-out straight up.

3. V2 Where it Counts:

Start on little boulder at back of Alley, and top-out straight up on boulder #3 and smaller boulder. (FA: Will, April 12, 2002)

4. V5 - V8 Project:

Start on diagonal crimp and move up face to top-out. There are some decent holds on top left if you can get to them.

5. V3 Extra Two Inches:

On the back of boulder #2. Sit start below overhang with hand match on obvious hold on arete. Move up and left to top out. (FA: Scott, April 12, 2002)

6. V1 - V3 Project:

Traverse from start of Fire Escape through Alley and out the back. Needs more cleaning.

7. V1 Abstraction:

Up face of boulder #1. Stand start. (Sit start is >V3 project) Holds out left are in. Top-out straight up. (FA: Teth Cleveland, April 12, 2002)

8. V4 Visual Abstraction:

Up face of boulder #1. Sit on flat boulder and start on crimps in horizontal seem. Move right and then up. Everything within 2 feet of arete is off route. (FA: Teth Cleveland, May, 2002)

9. V2+ Giddy-up:

Up corner of boulder #4. Stand start. Top half has not been cleaned yet. (FA: Teth Cleveland, April 19, 2002; Seconded by Denise Fillion)

The Feature Fantastic boulder

This is the Feature Fantastic Boulder. If you aim for the top of the hill on the short hike in, it might be the first boulder you encounter. This heavily featured boulder is great for warming up and for novice boulderers.

Problems on The Feature Fantastic boulder

10. V3 Love The Rock:

Sit start on good holds on the left side of Feature Fantastic boulder, big move up left to good hold, then follow featureless face and rounded arete, to good top-out.

11. V1 Missing My Ear:

Sit start on good hold on left side of face, big move left to good hold, then follow high crack to top.

12. V0 Ozzo:

Sit start on good hold, angle right on good holds to top.

13. V0 First Rock:

Sit start on ledge on center-right of face and move up using good holds.

14. V1 Moon Sine:

Stand start with left pinch on arete and right on ledge. Move up and left to good top-out.

15. V2 Carousel:

Stand start with left pinch on arete and right on ledge. Up the arete on the right side of the Feature Fantastic Boulder. Use undercling left, slap up right, use crack on far right and top out straight up. (FA: Taliesin Cleveland, April 19, 2002)

16. V1 Head For The Sky:

Stand start on side of Feature Fantastic boulder, and follow cracks to top.

The Jutting boulder

Just left (North) of the Feature Fantastic boulder is the Jutting boulder. The edge of the boulder juts out to produce and arete over and featureless overhang roof.

17. V4 Malicious Intent:

Stand start on right side of arete.

18. Project:

Climb arete.
